February 20, 2008:
Taiwan has set up a
commercial company, Taiwan Goal, to expedite the purchase and shipment of
military equipment for Taiwan. This organization will work directly with
foreign suppliers and Taiwanese officials to try and avoid bureaucratic
problems and misunderstandings. It is believed that foreign firms will be more
comfortable working with an "expediting firm" rather than the usual military or
government bureaucrats (and their well-deserved reputation for falling all over
themselves.) Many politicians and government officials do not oppose the idea
of Taiwan Goal, and want to do things the traditional way.
