Shortages of precision-guided weapons are getting critical. In the shortest supply is the Joint Direct Attack Munition, which is being used faster than it can be produced. Stocks of the conventional Air Launched Cruise missile are so low it cannot be used at all (although "anti-terrorist" funding is being used to buy more of them). The GBU-37 five thousand pound penetrating bomb is in desperately short supply; the US bought only a handful of them; formal production began only recently. --Stephen V Cole
