In order to fill the required slots, the Army has decided to allow sergeants up to 40 years old to take the drill sergeant course. Previously, no one over the age of 36 could take this course. The required score on the GT test (for sergeants to be considered for drill sergeant school) has been reduced from 100 to 95, although anyone under 100 must have either strong leadership records or a college degree or be well on the way to earning such a degree.--Stephen V Cole
