The Army has approved a new universal emblem which will be fitted to all of those new black berets to be adopted next 14 June. The "flash" consists of a blue shield with 13 white stars around the border and supposedly commemorates the 1781 victory of the US Army in the Revolutionary War. The medium blue shade, known as Bluebird, is the same blue used on the Medal of Honor. Officers will wear rank insignia in the center of the flash; enlisted soldiers will wear their regimental crests. Later, individual flashes for divisions and major commands may be created.--Stephen V Cole
