The Pentagon has two computer networks, the unclassified system that is a part of Internet and the separate classified system known as Siprnet. While thousands of hacker attacks have been logged through Internet channels, the military does not know if Siprnet (which it regards as secure) has ever been penetrated because no one monitors it. Without enough money to do everything, the Pentagon put all of its effort into the unsecure network it cannot control, and nothing into the supposedly secure network. While Siprnet is not connected to the Internet, it becomes vulnerable to piggy-back infiltration when a Pentagon official logs in from home.--Stephen V Cole
