A new report by a historian at the Library of Congress, based on recently-obtained Soviet archives, confirms that:
@ Soviet agents did infiltrate the US government. Dozens of agents were in place in the 1930s and 1940s.
@ The USSR subsidized the US Communist Party (something both consistently denied).
@ The US Communist Party was involved in espionage for the USSR.
@ Alger Hiss and Julius Rosenberg were confirmed as Soviet spies in Soviet archives. In essence, the report isn't new; this information came to light over the last several years. The report, however, notes the number of American analysts and journalists who continue to deny that it could have happened despite overwhelming evidence that it did.--Stephen V Cole
