Former Los Alamos National Laboratory scientist Wen Ho Lee was arrested on 10 Dec and arraigned on the 13th. He pled not guilty to 59 charges including that he mishandled classified information about US nuclear weapons. Lee is known to have moved classified documents to a non-secure computer that could have been accessed by foreign agents (had they been told where it was). Charges include that Lee downloaded data into seven files which have not been found. Lee was not charged with giving the data to China, but the US attorneys said they could prove that he "acted with intent to injure the United States". He could receive a life sentence if convicted. Lee's lawyer declared the charges groundless. A federal magistrate denied bail for Lee, ordering him held until his trial. --Stephen V Cole
