The U.S. Marine Corps has always been keen on accurate shooting, Every marine, no matter what their job, is expected to achieve a certain level of accuracy with the M-16 rifle each year. And each rifle battalion has 16 "scout snipers". These are carefully selected and trained men who use the marines own M40 7.62mm bolt action sniper rifle. The marines literally build their own M40s at a special facility at the marine base at Quantico, Virginia. Marine armorers assemble, adjust and test each 16.5 pound M40 before it is issued to a scout-sniper.
