The Canadian Army had made plans to get out of the light infantry business, converting two of its three light battalions into training units and the third into a seventh mechanized battalion. After its experiences in Afghanistan, however, it has decided to keep all three in service and buy them some new high-tech equipment including light vehicles and heavy weapons.--Stephen V Cole
