The U.S. Department of Defense is increasing the number of troops, contractors, civilian employees and dependents who get anthrax and smallpox vaccinations. Without naming specific units, the Department of Defense said that units in high threat areas like the Pacific and Middle East would get the vaccinations. So would civilian Department of Defense employees and contractors that are working in these areas. Dependents living in these areas could get the vaccinations on a voluntary basis. In addition, up to 200,000 troops will get delayed (by lawsuits and shortages) anthrax shots.
