Israeli researchers, funded by the U.S. Department of Defense, have developed genetically modified bacteria that glow when they are placed in water that is poisoned by toxins. This will make it possible to much more quickly detect chemical or biological attacks on water supplies. Genetically modified bacteria are also being developed to quickly detect a wide range of chemical or biological warfare attacks.
