Ten workers at the Oak Ridge nuclear weapons plant were injured on 8 Dec when a mixture of sodium and potassium (used as a cooling agent in casting nuclear warheads) spilled into the bottom of a furnace and exploded. Three of the ten were hospitalized. All ten received minor radiation exposures from depleted uranium affected by the explosion, but no radiation was released outside of the plant. --Stephen V Cole
