Support: Scraping Your Way To Victory

Archives

September 28, 2010: The U.S. Department of Defense has ordered 909 621G wheeled tractor scrapers, which are used for leveling ground for bases or airfields. These will cost about $705,000 each and be delivered over the next ten years, mostly for the use of the army and marines.

The 621G is a 37 ton system consisting of a 22 ton tractor and a 15 ton scraper and dirt receptacle (which can hold over 20 tons of dirt and debris). All the services use these vehicles to quickly prepare ground for military use in places like Iraq, Afghanistan and other remote areas where American troops are based and need to quickly construct bases and airfields. Engineering vehicles like the 621G have been a crucial element of American military success since World War II.
