The US Army is designing a Future Tactical Truck with a 10-ton payload to support the Future Combat System. The Future Tactical Truck is to burn 30% less fuel than the current fleet, with increased range and cross-country performance, and fit inside a C-130. The vehicle is to be 9.513m long and 2.784m high. Gross vehicle weight would be 14.5 tons. The two-man crew would sit in a cab designed to deflect radar waves and make convoys harder to track from a distance. The engine will be a 450hp diesel, and the vehicle will have an 8x8 layout. Some concepts under study include robot trucks that can follow trucks driven by humans.--Stephen V Cole
