: Former Warsaw Pact nations are seeking markets for their huge stocks of Cold War Surplus weapons, and have found a surprisingly good market for tanks in Africa. Some highlights: 

@ Algeria bought 67 T-72s from Ukraine in 1998.

@ Angola bought 30 unidentified tanks from Russia in 1993, 24 T-62s from Bulgaria in 1993, 31 T-55s from Bulgaria and 150 from Slovakia in 1999, and 55 T-55s from Slovakia in 2000.

@ Ethiopia bought 40 T-55s from Belarus in 1998, 50 T-55s from Bulgaria in 1998, and 100 T-55s from Bulgaria in 1999.

@ Morocco bought 70 T-72s from Belarus in 2000.

@ Sudan bought nine T-55s from Belarus in 1996.

@ Uganda bought 60 T-55s from Ukraine in 1995, 90 T0-55s from Bulgaria in 1998, and ten T-55s from Belarus in 2000.--Stephen V Cole
