The US Army has taken delivery of four 6x6 Pandur armored personnel carriers (the contract has options for 50 more) designated the Armored Ground Mobility System. While details of the purchase are unclear, it appears that they were bought by Special Operations Command for use in peacekeeping missions. The four vehicles (which have no turrets, but mount machineguns or grenade launchers on the same ring mount as a Humvee) will reportedly be used to escort humanitarian relief convoys. Pandur (an Austrian design built by General Dynamics Land Systems) is 6.5m long, 2.6m wide, and 2.1m high. It has a 6-cylinder 285hp engine providing a top speed of 100-105kph (62-65mph).--Stephen V Cole
