June 21, 2010:
Jordan is buying 441 used YPR-765 APCs (Armored Personnel Carriers) from the Netherlands. This is a 14 ton vehicle with a crew of three and space for seven passengers. There is a turret, which carries a heavy machine-gun or a 25mm autocannon. This vehicle was originally developed as an "improved M-113" (the predecessor of the 27 ton U.S. M-2). YPR-765 ended up being sort of "M-2 lite." The Netherlands is also selling another 600 used military vehicles to Jordan, mostly trucks, but including 121 M-109 self-propelled 155mm howitzers. Price is believed to be quite low, as the YPR-765 was developed in the 1970s. Jordan is basically getting Cold War surplus stuff, well maintained, but old.
