Air Transportation: June 22, 2002

The army is working on increasing it's air mobility. The current proposals include doubling the number of aircraft in the 160th Aviation Regiment (that includes all the special helicopters that support the Special Forces.) This increase in aircraft also includes splitting the regiment into four subunits, each of which would specialize on a different part of the world (and train in climates and geography typical of that part of the world.) Another proposal is to talk the air force into letting the army buy some C-130s, giving the army more control over its air transport needs.
