Warplanes: March 25, 2000

Archives

Lockheed and South Korea have renamed their KTX2 trainer as the T50 Golden Eagle and are offering an A50 light attack fighter in order to find export customers. Each T50 will cost about $19 million while each A50 would cost about $21 million. It is already a done deal that South Korea will order 94 T50s for delivery from 2005, but if the A50 is picked to replace the old F4s and F5s, this order could triple and the aircraft would be a powerful competitor against the British Hawk. --Stephen V Cole
