A handy, but by no means exhaustive, reference to insurgents and insurgencies since ancient times, using a definition of "revolution" that includes the whole of the political spectrum. However, omissions are numerous and surprising (e.g., Spanish anarchist Buenaventura Durruti or Puerto Rican Nationalist Albizu Campos), while the length of some entries does not always reflect the relative importance of the subject (e.g., Irish nationalist Michael Collins merits much less space than the British Fascist Oswald Mosely), and terminology is often curious (e.g., the entry for Gaius Julius Civils begins "In early Dutch history . . . .").
